1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
Doug and I have been married for 26 years and have a wonderful 22 year old son, Pete, who just graduated from Iowa State University with a Chemical Engineering Degree. We are also planning a wedding for August 2012 when we will officially welcome Ashley into our family!!
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
We are still traveling as often as possible and I am still singing. I now sign with an a capella quartet and had the great pleasure of filming a music video with the group, "Straight No Chaser" last year. We are hoping to get in to the recording studio soon to cut a CD.
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
The best memories are about friends and singing. The Sing-a-Thon comes to mind - staying up all night singing and laughing.
4.) Anything else you'd like to share?
Sorry I can't be with you for this reunion, June is a busy time. Find me on Facebook or at [email protected]. Love you guys....

Congratulations to Richard Montgomery’s Class of 1976 on its 35th anniversary! Sorry to miss seeing everyone at our reunion – when you read this I will be on a two week long back-packing trip with my son at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He and I have been in serious training for nine months – sort of like an extended Earl Walthall suicide basketball drill!
1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
I am living in Rockville with my wife Phyllis and our two children in a house we purchased way back in 1990. Daughter Jaclyn graduated from Rockville High School (I know, I know!) and from Johns Hopkins University. Son James is a rising junior at Rockville and is the reason that I am in the best shape of my life and also why I cannot prove it at the reunion!
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
Occupation wise - I am a Principal in a Bethesda architecture firm that is only a short hike away from Rich’s second change of venue – Positano’s – where I frequently have lunch! Make sure you guys try the rockfish….
Other than spending money at REI – we recently have been traveling. My kids speak fluent French (Madams Zieders and Stern would be shocked – I give full credit to my beautiful wife!) and we recently visited France, Ireland, and Spain.
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
High school memories - sorry none! Although this hiking experience does make me recall the Assateague Island trip that many of us took in junior high – does anyone remember sleeping on cots stacked in U-Haul rental vans? We could probably file a class action lawsuit and retire! Any lawyers in our class?!
4.) Anything else you'd like to share?:
I hope everyone is well and appreciates the effort Rich and crew have made for our class. I promise I’ll do my best to make it to our 40th!

Current Location (City, State or Country): Brookeville, MD
University/College/Trade School:
1980: Theatre Degree from
St. Francis College, Loretto, PA
1988: Masters in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College, MD
1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
I am married to Michael and we have a little girl, Emily, who is 7 years old and in the first grade. She is active in Girl Scouts, at the Daisy stage. She bridges over to Brownies this June. She is very energetic and gets lots of good grades in school. She also plays soccer which she enjoys quite a bit!
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:After I left Richard Montgomery, I got an undergraduate degree in Theatre and worked in broadcasting as a TV studio engineer and voice over talent for commercials and industrials. I also worked as a radio DJ and radio news reporter.
I got a masters in pastoral counseling and did clinical work for about 10 years. Then I joined the civil service and now work for the Department of Health and Human Services as a Labor Relations Liaison and am also involved in Personnel Security policy and investigations.
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
As far as high school memories go, I enjoyed very much being with a great group of friends, including my high school boyfriend, Mark Pelphrey – one year older at RM. AP English was a good prep for college. Being voted Class Sunshine meant a lot to me. I still have a very positive outlook on life and its travails!
4.) Anything else you'd like to share?:
To today’s high schoolers I’d say to pay attention to what you are learning – both in class and among your peers. Studying is a critical part of high school but so is being with friends and doing good for others. Finding the balance is so very important and we actually never really stop learning how to do that as adults.
We went to high school at a very difficult time in this country’s history. I think we did the best we could with what we had, emotionally, intellectually, psychologically and socially. We had racial tension, gangs, drugs and narcs. And we made it through, struggling to find respect for one another and to do the right thing. We were a great group of kids and have made it into adulthood with a lot to be proud of.
I’ve written too much! Take care, all!

1.) Tell Us About Your Family! Here's where the bragging begins....:
Husband: Alexis, Mechanical Engineer working for himself
Daughter: Camille, 18 and off to University of Bristol in September
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
After 15 years making my way in the retail world of DC (lots of trips to NYC and Italy made it really interesting!), I finally agreed to move to Mauritius (where?) and marry the man I had met while vacationing there after university. Been here ever since (1990): worked in marketing within the textile manufacturing industry for 14 years, then took a sabbatical and spent loads of time volunteering my daughter’s school, soaking it in, before going back into the work force - still marketing - but this time in the burgeoning real estate industry (that was in ’05). In spare time, I do yoga, take walks (am trying to get back into bicycling), read, read, read and read some more, see friends and more. As I will soon become an empty-nester (in one fell swoop), will be looking for a new hobby or so.
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
Ze best: playing hookie, football games, sleepovers with girlfriends, the breezeway, Zarchie, Mr. Butler, hanging out at the showcase, laughing, laughing, laughing.
Ze worst: hurting other people and getting hurt

Danny Colvin
Name: Danny Colvin
Current Location: Gettysburg, PA
To the Class of 1976:
Where has all the years gone? I retired from the Metro Police Department in Washington D.C. in 2004. I was the Sergeant in-charge of the K-9 Unit, clearly the best job anyone could ever have. In past years I had the honor to work under and learn from, Captain John D. Leacock. Andrea, you are blessed to have a father who is without question a brilliant man.
I would like to take this opportunity and thank a dear friend, Steve Jenkins, for honoring me with the nickname " The General ". This nickname has followed me throughout my life. Every police officer and official who knows me from my Department still knows me today as "The General". I share this information with you because I have been blessed in the second half of my life. This past Christmas a Genealogist and a very dear friend of mine traced my name and family tree back to the 1500's. I have recently learned I am related to the Chief of the Iroquois Nation and believe it or not, blood related to General Robert E. Lee. That being said, I now have a 735 acre estate in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and construction is underway on, " The General's Mountain Lodge ". My first event on the grounds will be a military wedding over this July 4th weekend which I will cater myself.
Our web site is currently under construction and I hope in the near future many of you will come for a visit. I have dropped the hint to Richard that maybe I can host the next class reunion.
I wish each and everyone of you all the best in health and happiness.
Fondly,
Danny Colvin

Rich Moonblatt
Name: Richard "Bedard" Moonblatt
Current Location (City, State, or Country): Silver Spring, MD
Occupation: Businessman
University/College/Trade School: Ohio University
1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
This is where I tell you how successful I have become. Having, “Successfully Failed,” in several long term live-in relationships owning Real Estate, I finally landed on the person I will spend the remainder of my life with. With a few disasters along the way, James and I have been together for over 6 years. My partner, James, has done his part by working at the NIH ( National Institutes for Health) for over 17 years and continues to support medical research to ensure that all of us have better healthcare in the future. Success does have its detours! But, I am now on track.
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
My life has been full, if it all ended today; the only thing I would regret is potentially missing out on something else! But I still have a good story to tell.
Travel has become my hallmark. I spend my time abroad (usually in some downtrodden third world or developing country) trying to blend. I don't think it's working. It's been an amazing and adventurous ride from traveling to over 120 countries, islands and territories places most folks couldn't find on a map.
We have a lovely home and grounds in Silver Spring and spend our days managing our way through the professional rat race.
With all that said, did I awkwardly pitch a life full of stature? If so, then I succeeded in providing the standard Reunion Bio passage! In reality, I've also had some very bad days, but I've bounced back.
What's for the future? You can count on your 40th Class reunion. With six formal ones under my belt, I'm getting the hang of things.
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
Best? Dr. Warren writing in my yearbook, “RMHS Will Never Forget Everything You Did To (For) It!"
Worst? During my campaign for Senior Class President, the bane of my existence, Mr. Barnes, told everyone not to vote for me because I wouldn’t dress for Gym.
Unforgettable: Bridget Bolcik and I coming home from Prom in a tow truck. Who knew I was supposed to put oil in my 1968 Torino.
4.) If you could send a message to another classmate, what would you say?:
If opportunity doesn't knock, build another door!
5.) Anything else you'd like to share?
Opportunity knocks all the time, but you have to be ready for it.
James and I wish each of everyone of you safe travels and if opportunity doesn't knock, fall back on Fleetwood Mac’s 1976 mantra:
“Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow.”
Keep in touch and journey happily and safely.

Hello Class of ’76,
Sorry I could not attend this year as I am at an out of town wedding. Anyway:
Since last reunion:
Have had Big Hunt, beer-bar on Dupont Circle for 14 years,
Since then,
Opened DC9, Intimate (small) Rock & Roll venue upstairs, local tavern down, 9th & U St. 8 years ago.
Opened Red Palace Burlesque (the real kind)/ Rock & Roll Venue Bar, 1212 H St NE (formerly Red & Black & Palace of Wonders) 5 years ago.
Opened Rock & Roll Hotel 500 cap. Venue Downstairs, Dance bar Upstairs 5 years ago.
Opened a Mexican Restaurant in Sydney (King’s Cross) with fellow RM Alum. Bill Komoroski sells a lot of Burritos to Roos.
Love to travel, done most of Europe, before and after Wall came down.
Done a little of the East: Japan; Thailand; Viet Nam; Hong Kong (before & after).
Caught a 440 pound Blue Marlin in Costa Rica and a 200 Yellow-Fin Tuna in Aruba.
That’s about it for exciting junk.
But, of course the MOST rewarding thing I do WAS the picnic, will miss you guys, till the 40th!
See ya’

Hi everyone!
1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
Husband of almost 29 years, Larry Ballow. We have two grown boys (men) Tyler, 28 years old and Ryan, 23 years old, both doing well. They are good people and a lot of fun to be around.
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
I’ve been working for the same environmental firm (TLI Solutions) for the last 17 years now. Prior to that, I was in the various environmental labs working with all kinds of samples. I started out in the NOAA Corp as an Ensign (Science Officer) and worked on a ship. That when I met my husband, Larry Ballow. He was a quartermaster on the U.S. NOAA ship, the Mt. Mitchell. It was a great first job, as the ship went to Puerto Rico and St. Croix. We’ve been married for almost 29 years now and loving it.
Our lives are just breaking out of the same old stuff as Larry got a job in Antarctica in 2008 and 2010. I was able it meet him in New Zealand and we also made it to Australia. Finally, some new places to explore! We are hoping to expand our travels in the coming years. See the attached picture from the Antarctic Center in New Zealand. What a wonderful trip.
See ya,

Heidi Bekebrede
Name: Heidi Bekebrede (I actually only went to Julius West Jr. High)
Current Location: Davis, CA
Occupation: Artist/Narrator/Vocalist
University of California at Davis Studio Art Major 1980
I’ve been married to artist, George Grant for 30 years. We have a daughter who is about to turn 25. She lives in LA and is also an artist.
What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
I’ve been living in Davis, CA , making Cuteware, teaching art classes, singing in various bands, spending a lot of time with kids.
I didn’t go to RMHS because we moved the summer after 9th grade. I went to Wootton. The Julius West memories that are strongest are of feeling afraid of some of our fellow classmates. Too bad. But I also fondly remember Mrs. Yin, the art teacher, and singing in front of the whole school during an assembly at Christmas time. Certain songs always make me think of those days: Tears of a Clown transports me to the Julius West cafeteria and Bye Bye Miss American Pie and Crocodile Rock send me straight to the gym.
Everyone: Please feel free to contact me on Facebook or via my web site: www.cuteware.net
There are tons of photos to peruse.

1.) Tell us about your family! Here's where the bragging begins...:
Happily married since 1992 to Leslie. Two daughters, Kate 13, Lauren 17. Both serious scholars, unlike their father was.
2.) What have you been up to since you last saw the RMHS gang?:
Pretty much the same thing for the last 15 years. Running my management company in Dallas, relatively happy with life. My family has been very fortunate. We are healthy, like our lives, inching upward a tiny bit each year as we move forward on the curve of life. I do occasional ultra distance bicycle racing. Usually come in the middle of the pack, but since I hit 50, I qualify for the 'old guys' division - even won a national title in a 12hour race two years ago!
3.) Care to share some high school memories? Give us the best, the worst, the unforgettable... your call!:
So long ago…. Frankly, I feel I squandered a lot of high school opportunities. As I think back, the most motivating experience was visiting the USSR on our senior trip. We really got an eye full of the reality of a totalitarian society. Saw old ladies sweeping streets (everyone has a job in a workers paradise), saw and met kids our age desperate to get out of there and get to the west. Also, until I left the DC area, I did not realize what an invaluable experience the microcosm of RMHS was. At RM went to school with foreign embassy staff kids, poor kids, well off kids, multiple races, ethnic and nationalities. Really a good experience. Here in Texas you are either Anglo or recently from Mexico. In effect, two poles, not nearly as diverse in between.
4.) If you could send a message to another classmate, what would you say?:
To no one in particular, and to everyone - I really hope you are living a good life!
5.) Anything else you'd like to share?
Only that I am inordinately proud of my kids; smart, loving and healthy. The attached photo was taken by my wife from a trip we took to France three years ago so I could participate in a race. (The monkeys? - just mascots I attach to my bike on some races.)
